Profile:

Utah Community Planners (UCP) specializes in providing expert municipal planning services to cities and counties throughout Utah. The experience of UCP has benefited many Utah communities with development review and comprehensive planning services. The cities of Kanab, Toquerville, LaVerkin, Ivins, Mendon, Hyrum, Hooper, Clinton, West Point, Fruit Heights, Bluffdale, Pleasant Grove, Orem, Elk Ridge, Price, Wellington and Ephraim have all benefited from UCP planning services.

In 2004 and 2005, Utah Community Planners principal Ken R. Young was recognized with an award for Excellence in Planning and Design by the Envision Utah Governor’s Quality Growth Awards for his work on Parks and Trails Master Plans for Hooper City and West Point City.

Ken has a broad background in municipal land use planning and administration in Utah and Nevada. His experience of over 20 years includes working with several Utah communities assisting them with their comprehensive planning needs.

As Community Development Director for Pleasant Grove City, Ken has overseen many planning projects and documents, including the update of the City General Plan and a Downtown Revitalization Plan.

As the Orem City Senior Planner, he created a variety of development guidelines and ordinances, and updated the Orem City General Plan and Land Use Code. While with the City of Mesquite, Nevada, Ken played a significant role in planning and managing several community development projects and improvement programs during the city’s explosive growth period. He also had the opportunity to serve as a Planning Commissioner in his hometown of City of Cedar Hills, Utah for 3 years.

Ken takes a balanced view of the impacts of development and the issues that are important to the quality of life of a community. His governmental experience, and education with a Master of Public Administration, has helped him to understand multi-faceted views of municipal planning and its relationship to the political organization.
